The 2012 NRA/OKYHEC season will be underway before you know it. It is time to begin putting the event dates on your calendar and making plans to have some YHEC fun!!

The website has been updated with the 2012 events and the season will kick off on March 24th with the western Oklahoma event being held at Chain Ranch. There will then be an event each month April – Alva, May – Norman, June – Guymon and State YHEC at OKC Gun Club. The Guymon event is a first time event and it is always exciting when NRA/OKYHEC can come to a new venue.

Please be sure to invite your friends to come and join the fun and excitement of the YHEC program. If they have not completed their hunter education course, please encourage them to do so.

The State NRA/OKYHEC committee is always looking for committed adults to help with the program. If you are interested in being a committee member, please contact me and I will be glad to visit with you regarding the program.

Looking forward to seeing you in March.

And remember – “Turn off the TV, get off the couch and get outdoors”.

It is available as a standard eight-hour course, the internet home study course and the workbook home study course.

Why Hunter Education?

Over the past 30 years, hunting related accidents and fatalities have declined by more than 70 percent in Oklahoma. Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) say mandatory hunter education courses have not only reduced accidents within Oklahoma, but also in every state and Canadian province with similar programs.

It does not seem like that long ago I was typing up my 2010 NRA/OKYHEC letter. Speaking of 2010 – the NRA/OKYHEC program had a tremendous year. There were 5 regional events and the State event held in June at Oklahoma City Gun Club. The program saw many new faces in the past year. It is always exciting to see a new participant because I know that they are going to have so much fun that they will want to go out and tell their friends about YHEC.

The 2011 season is shaping up to be another exciting one for the program. The YHEC volunteer board members are contacting venues to pin down dates for the 2011 events. Please be sure to check the website often as the dates will be posted as soon as a confirmation from the event coordinator is firmed up. The 2011 season will begin in March with the Canton, OK event at the Chain Ranch. Thank you to Newly at the ranch for his continued support of the NRA/OKYHEC program.

Oklahoma City Gun Club will once again host the State YHEC event in June. That date should be firmed up in the next few weeks.

The International YHEC event will return to Raton, NM July 24-29, 2011. Plans are already underway to send two teams from Oklahoma to the International YHEC. If you are interested in learning more about this exciting opportunity, please watch the website. The registration fee for the I-YHEC event is $475 so if you really serious about attending you may want to start thinking about getting some sponsors.

Please become our friend on Facebook so that we can keep in touch and share the YHEC experience.

Look forward to seeing all of you this season.
