Looking Forward to 2010

I have watched youth from this state grow up in the NRA/OK Youth Hunter Education Challenge program.  I can tell you that they are some of the most well mannered, responsible and fun kids to be around.  It has been such a great experience for me to be involved in this program.  The main goal of the program is to pass on the heritage of hunting to the next generation.  The youth who participate in this program have the opportunity to try out their skills against other youth and to gain knowledge in which to improve and build their skills as they compete.  The best part about the program to me is to see the friendships that are formed between the participants who come from different parts of the state.  These kids look forward to the next event so that they can catch up with their friends for some friendly competition.

I would like to personally thank all of the volunteers throughout the State of Oklahoma who are such a vital part of the YHEC program.  Without the dedication and commitment of these fine people, the program would not exist.  Thank you to the Friends of the National Rifle Association Oklahoma committees for their hard work in fundraising throughout the years, because of their efforts the YHEC program has been successful in acquiring grant money to assist in running the state-wide events.  Thank you to all of our sponsors who are listed on our website.  Your generous support is most appreciated.

Looking forward to a successful 2010 NRA/OKYHEC season!

Carey,
Congratulations on a season full of events across Oklahoma that you have worked hard to put together. YHEC is a very important tool to bring hunting saftey to youth. I know you will do an outstanding job in doing just that. The new web site is a reflection of the quality of leadership in the YHEC program that will be brought to the youth of Oklahoma in the future as well. Again, good job Carey, and continue to give great leadership to your coordinators.

What a great day in Canton!!! 36 shooters came to the Chain Ranch to participate in the 2010 Youth Hunter Education Challenge Event. Thank you Mark Fuqua and Phil Eitzen and volunteers for a well run, fun and safe event. Your efforts are most appreciated. Thank you to the Canton History Day folks who served lunch. Thank you Courtney for your expertise in scoring, you are a valuable asset to the program.

Please send any feedback on the event via this blog. Your comments and suggestions will be helpful in making YHEC even better in Oklahoma.

Hope to see many of you in Tishomingo on March 27th. Please remember to get your registration in early as this helps out the event coordinator with the planning for food and prizes.

Had a small but great event once more at Tish! It just amazes me that we have such great kids attending YHEC events. Dean Arnold and his volunteers did a great job! Looking forward to Stillwater!

I am sorry to report that the Stillwater YHEC has been cancelled. The event coordinator and his committee made the decision today to cancel. No pre-registrations had been received by the deadline. It is hard to plan an event without really knowing what the numbers are going to be; that is why pre-registration is so important to these events.

I hope that you can join us in Ponca City on May 1st. Remember send in your registrations early.

Thank you

Thank you to Amil Lyon, Norman YHEC Event Coordiator and Tri-City Gun Club for a very successful 2010 Regional YHEC Event. There we 20 youth who participated in the 8 event day. Many of the youth were first timers which is a benefit to the program. Each new participant will hopefully spread the word about what a fun experience they had at the event and bring a friend next time.

Speaking of next time, please remember to visit the website for all the details for the Ada event June 12th and the State YHEC event on June 19th.

Hope to see you soon!

Thank you to OKC Gun Club and all of the volunteers for your help and support of the 2010 State YHEC event. It was a very hot day but I know that the youth kept going and had fun working through the events.

Remember to talk to your friends about YHEC and get them geared up for the next event. Watch the website because plans are underway to possibly have an event in the Fall. Hopefully the weather will be cooler.
